Safety Council
The Champaign County Safety Council (CCSC) is operated and funded by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation Division of Safety & Hygiene. The Safety Council is open to all companies, corporations and individual employers.
All Ohio Safety Councils have the same goals:
- Increase safety awareness
- Prevent occupational accidents
- Provide quality occupational safety & health programs
But this is not an easy task. That is why it must be a combined effort of local companies and the community, which is why we at the Chamber feel that we can better serve the businesses of Champaign County and the surrounding area by operating a safety council program.
As a CCSC member your benefits are:
- The latest information regarding safety techniques, products and services
- Quality speakers
- Easy to use implementation tools
- The opportunity to network with the business community of Champaign County and beyond
- Recognition as a safe business at the annual awards banquet
- Also, CCSC members are eligible for the Safety Council Discount Program, which can result in a rebate of up to 4% of their annual workers' compensation premiums. To qualify for this rebate, each member must:
-Attend 10 meeting or events between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2008
-CEO must attend one safety council sponsored function or meeting
-Submit both semiannual reports for the 2007 calendar year
Meeting the above will result in a 2% rebate. To qualify for the remaining 2% discount, members must:
-Reduce their frequence of claims or severity of days absent due to injuries by 10% or more below the previous year's frequency or severity
-OR maintain both frequence and severity at zero.
Twenty seven Champaign County businesses will share $138,918.98 as a result of their successful participation in the Bureau of Workers' Compensation Safety Council incentive program coordinated by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce.
Checks were distributed at the October Safety Council meeting. The Champaign County Safety Council was reorganized in 2005 and hosts monthly meetings on topics related to occupational safety, accident prevention, risk management and workers' compensation issues.
In addition, the program allows for representatives from business and industry to network and share ideas beneficial to workplace safety. The Champaign County Safety Council includes representatives from 45 local businesses.
The CCSC meets on the third Wednesday of each month at the Urbana Champaign Senior Center at 7:30 am.
While there is no charge to join the CCSC, a monthly meeting charge of $10 is required in order to cover the cost of hall rental and catering. In order to qualify for the BWC discount, each member is required to attend 10 meetings, turn in both semi annual reports, and have their CEO attend any of the meetings, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
